pastels on colored paper
This drawing was a very spontaneous and quick work that came into my mind one night a few days ago. I've wanted to draw a unicorn for a long time, but I've never found a fitting pose - Until I saw this photo by the wonderful vadalein. It seemed to be just perfect! And here's what I made out of it.
Maybe this drawing will also be my entry for the Mystical Contest by Artists-of-Equus.

I like the concept behind this piece, and how the title really brings it together. White-on-black was definitely the right route for this piece; it makes the unicorn seem to be leaping from the page. The puff of dust under him gives him both a ground to rise above and a sense of movement. I would have liked to see a little more blending on the body, however, the way you did on the ground. You did well with the black-and-white by separating the two clearly-- keeping the ground/dust away from his front hooves emphasized them nicely, and the dark shadow around his face where it crosses over his body was a necessary touch that it would have been far too easy to forget.
The anatomy here is tricky, both because it's an unusual pose and because your reference photo is of a very fuzzy horse (you can't see his muscles or the contours of his body), but I think it's less than perfect here. I thought you did well with the bits you added, though-- his horn looks good (if a little off-center?) and his mane and tail are simply lovely in their understatement and sense of movement.
Overall, I would say a piece with room for improvement that nonetheless is very attractive.
